Art and history in one sip

At the beginning of the 19th century, in Parma, the duchess Maria Luigia, during a detailed nursery gardening research which was very popular at that time in the upper class environments, becomes enchanted by a rare variant of the violet, her favourite flower. It is not the wild type (Viola odorata L.), but a rare hybridization, resulting from a cross breed between that type and violets possibly of Middle East origin, that created the current cultivation of the Viola Odorata L. Duchesse de Parme. The duchess engages the monks to produce a fragrance with their alchemy arts utilizing a laborious extraction method, known as enfleurage. Regarding these inebriating events of Parmesan Romanticism, Enfleurage® becomes a rigorous voice. On the basis of a unique historical botanical it retraced the history of Parma city’s perfume and, freely inspired to the bouquet of the well known “Violetta di Parma” fragrance, it pays homage with the precise intent to embrace the perfumery art with the distillation art. From this synesthetical union, the concept of “perfume to be drinked” is conceived, as well as the first European gin which entails the extraction method of adsortion. Innovating the tradition between the analogical and digital usages, Enfleurage® transfers its productive processes on one hand towards the artisan refinement of the historical method of inflowering, on the other hand towards the technological sophistication of rotating evaporators. Extracted from a Pommade n° 30, our violet enfleurage is the result of a process that cannot be speeded up, and in order to obtain it, the hands of our family are decked with flowers continuously for thirty days with precision and patience. A fleeting period in spring is the only valid time for the collection and usage of the flower, its precious essence in dosed quantities is poured for our production of gin of a whole year. This renders Enfleurage® valuable and it explains that there is no mass-production but of production in small batches.
